Who can apply for the UAE freelancer Green Visa?
The Abu Dhabi Residents Office has listed a dedicated Freelancers category under the Abu Dhabi Green Visa.
The residence visa is valid for five years and is designed for eligible self-employed professionals.
Applicants must first obtain a freelance work permit from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE).
They must also hold at least a bachelor’s degree, specialised diploma or an equivalent qualification.
AED 360,000 income requirement
Freelancers have an income-based route to meet the financial requirement.
They must show self-employment income of at least AED 360,000 per year for each of the previous two years, or the equivalent amount in another currency.
The official Abu Dhabi Residents Office guidance also provides an alternative: applicants can submit proof of financial solvency for the entire intended period of residence in the UAE.

Applicants should be prepared to provide their MOHRE freelance work permit together with either proof of the required annual income for the previous two years or evidence of financial solvency for the intended residency period.
Can freelancers apply now?
There is an important point for applicants to note. The Abu Dhabi Residents Office currently states that submitting a nomination request for the freelancer category is unavailable through its portal.
Freelancers planning to apply should therefore check the latest official UAE and Abu Dhabi residency information before making arrangements or paying any third party to process an application.
What this means for remote professionals
The five-year Green Visa provides an established residency route for eligible freelancers without relying on a traditional employer-sponsored residence arrangement.
However, meeting the published eligibility requirements does not by itself mean an application can currently be submitted through the Abu Dhabi Residents Office portal.
